Privacy

This site runs no analytics and no tracking of any kind. A plain visit sets no cookie. Everything it does hold is listed below, in full, because a privacy page that describes a different site is worse than none.

What a plain visit records

Nothing on this site, and no cookie is set. There is no analytics script, no tag manager, no advertising pixel and no session cookie until a page with a form is loaded.

That is checkable rather than a promise. Open the developer tools on any page here, look at the network tab and the cookie jar, and compare it with what this page says.

The two places data does get involved

Cloudflare sits in front of this site and handles every request before it reaches the server. It therefore sees the IP address of every visitor and keeps its own logs, as any content delivery network does. That is how the site is protected from attack and served quickly. Cloudflare's own privacy terms govern what it does with those logs.

Google Fonts serves the two typefaces this site uses, from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Loading a font from Google means a request goes to Google, which means Google can see the IP address making it. This is the only third party the pages themselves contact, and the fonts could be self-hosted to remove it entirely.

Nothing else is loaded from anywhere else. No analytics provider, no social widget, no comment service, no advertising network.

What the forms store

Four forms on this site write to a database, and each stores only what is typed into it plus the IP address the submission came from. The IP is kept because these forms are open to anyone, and it is the only way to stop the same source abusing them.

Form What is stored
Contact Name, email address, subject, message, IP address, timestamp
Submit a tool Tool name, website, pricing page, category, the comparison suggested, optional email, notes, IP address
Price changed What changed, the link offered as proof, optional email, IP address
Claim a listing Work email address, its domain, name and role, message, IP address

An email address given on the correction or submission form is optional. It is used to ask a question about that submission and nothing else. It is not added to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

What is deliberately not collected

No account is needed to read anything here, so there are no reader accounts and no reader profiles. Nobody is tracked between pages or between visits. No data from these forms is sold, rented, shared with an advertising network, or passed to a vendor whose price file prompted the message.

A vendor whose tool is on this site is not told who asked about it.

Loading a page that contains a form sets a single session cookie. It holds a random token used to confirm that a form submission came from the form it claims to, which is standard protection against a third-party site posting on a visitor's behalf.

It carries no identifier, no analytics value and nothing personal, it is HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax, and it expires when the session ends. Browsing the site without touching a form does not set it at all.

The administration area sets its own session cookie for whoever signs in to it. There is exactly one such account.

How long things are kept

Form submissions are kept while they are useful: a correction until the figure has been checked and the decision recorded, a submission until the tool has been priced or declined. A nightly database backup is retained for fourteen days and then deleted.

Asking for a copy, or asking for deletion

Send the request through the contact form and name the message you mean, or the email address you used. Anything held under that address will be sent back or deleted.

There is no automated process for this. A site this size does not need one, and pretending otherwise would be the sort of claim the rest of this site exists to catch.

Some pages carry affiliate links, each labelled as one where it appears. Following one takes you to the vendor, and the vendor may set its own cookies and record its own analytics under its own terms. Nothing about that is visible to this site beyond a commission appearing later, which carries no identity.

Changes

A change to this page will be noted on it with a date. Nothing is quietly edited here, which is the same rule the price files follow.
