What the free tier actually allows
- The pricing page lists no free plan. The cheapest plan is Early, at a regular price of $27 a month.
- Next to Buy now the page shows a Get one month free option. Its terms could not be opened and were not read for this file.
- The page states that onboarding help from a product specialist is free for the first 90 days.
What the pricing page does not say
- The large figures on the page are offer prices. $5.40, $11.80 and $19.40 a month last for the first 3 months, then the regular prices of $27, $59 and $97 apply and renew monthly.
- The offer terms limit the 80% discount to new customers in the United States buying their first organization on xero.com with the code named in those terms. The discount covers the base plan only, not add-ons, usage or payment fees, and Xero can change or cancel it at any time.
- Early is capped at 20 invoices and 5 bills. The terms say the invoice limit counts invoices that are approved as well as sent, and that invoices created by connected apps may count toward it.
- Payroll is not in any plan. Xero Payroll, powered by Gusto, is an optional add-on at $36 a month plus $6 per employee or contractor on all three plans.
- Auto-reconcile is included from Growing. On Early it is an optional add-on at $5.00 per month.
- Multiple currencies, project time and cost tracking, and employee expense and mileage claims are listed only on Established, the $97 plan.
- Prices exclude taxes, which the terms say are calculated from the billing address. Payment fees apply to online invoice payments and to bill payments other than standard ACH, and the fee amounts are not on the pricing page.
- The terms say a move to a less expensive plan is possible 1 month after upgrading.
Xero pricing for a team of 1, 5 and 20
Xero charges per plan, not per person. The page states "No per-user license fees", so a team of 1, 5 or 20 pays the same subscription. The figures below are arithmetic on the regular prices read on 11 Oct 2026, before taxes.
| Plan | Per month, any team size | Per year at regular price |
|---|---|---|
| Early | $27 | $27 x 12 = $324 |
| Growing | $59 | $59 x 12 = $708 |
| Established | $97 | $97 x 12 = $1,164 |
Team size changes the bill only through payroll. Xero Payroll, powered by Gusto, is $36 a month plus $6 per employee or contractor:
- 1 person: $36 + 1 x $6 = $42 a month
- 5 people: $36 + 5 x $6 = $66 a month
- 20 people: $36 + 20 x $6 = $156 a month
Growing with payroll for 5 people is $59 + $66 = $125 a month, or $125 x 12 = $1,500 a year.
What the offer changes
On 11 Oct 2026 the page showed 80% off for the first 3 months for new US customers. The first year then costs:
- Early: 3 x $5.40 + 9 x $27 = $259.20
- Growing: 3 x $11.80 + 9 x $59 = $566.40
- Established: 3 x $19.40 + 9 x $97 = $931.20
The discount applies to the base plan only, so payroll and other add-ons are charged in full from the start.
Which plan fits which business
- Early: up to 20 invoices and 5 bills, with bank reconciliation, reports and sales tax. Auto-reconcile costs $5.00 a month extra, which makes $27 + $5 = $32.
- Growing: no invoice or bill limit shown, plus automated bill entry, dashboards, budgets and auto-reconcile.
- Established: multiple currencies, project tracking, expense and mileage claims and a 180 day cash flow forecast.
