What the free tier actually allows

What the pricing page does not say

Why there is no Paychex pricing on the page

The Paychex small business payroll page is a product page, not a price list. Under the heading Compare Small Business Payroll Options it shows four plan cards, and none of them carries a figure. The button at the top of the page reads Get a Quote Now. The captured page text contains no dollar amount for any plan, fee or add-on.

What is published

The four Paychex plans, in the order shown, with the page's own one-line descriptions:

  • Basic: for essential payroll and HR needs.
  • Foundations: for businesses looking for payroll, reporting and HR.
  • Advanced: payroll, HR and compliance with hands-on support.
  • Complete: a full-service suite of HR, payroll, workforce and talent management tools in one platform.

The page also states what the payroll service does on every plan it describes: payroll entered and run in as few as two clicks, payroll taxes calculated, paid and filed automatically at federal, state and local level, W-2s and 1099s prepared, and employee self-service through an online portal.

What a team pays

No team total can be worked out. A cost for a team of 1, 5 or 20 needs a base fee or a per-employee rate, and Paychex publishes neither on this page. This file does not estimate one. The page does say the service covers a business of one, under the heading Built for Businesses of One, and that the same platform is kept as headcount grows.

What sits outside the payroll plans

The page presents several services as additions to payroll, each without a price:

  • Hiring and onboarding
  • Time and attendance
  • Workers' compensation insurance, with a payment service the footnote says is not available in North Dakota, Ohio, Washington and Wyoming
  • Paychex Promise, described as up to 7 days of flexibility on payroll funding

Paychex Flex Perks is the one item the page describes as coming at no additional cost to the business.

How to get a number

Two routes are on the page: the Get a Quote Now button, and a Request Pricing section with a Talk to Sales selector covering payroll, time and attendance, benefits, insurance, HR services and PEO. The quote form was not opened or filled in for this file, so the questions it asks are not recorded here.

Other payroll tools are filed in the payroll drawer. Rippling's price file covers another payroll vendor that sells by quote. How every figure on this site is read and dated is set out on the method page.

Questions

Is Paychex free?
No free plan is listed. The Paychex small business payroll page, read on 8 Oct 2026, names four paid plans with no published price and mentions no Paychex free plan or free trial. Buyers are sent to a quote.
What does Paychex cost?
The Paychex cost is not published. The small business payroll page shows no dollar figure for any plan. A price comes only from the Get a Quote Now button or the Request Pricing section, which leads to sales.
What are the Paychex plans?
The page lists four Paychex plans for small business payroll: Basic, Foundations, Advanced and Complete. Each has a one-line description and no price. Plan details sit behind a View Payroll Plans button.
What is the Paychex price per user?
Not published. The page gives no per-employee or per-user rate, no base fee and no setup fee, so no per-head figure can be read off Paychex's own page as of 8 Oct 2026.
How is a Paychex quote requested?
Through the Get a Quote Now button at the top of the page, or the Request Pricing section lower down, where a Talk to Sales selector lists Payroll Services, Time & Attendance, Employee Benefits, Business Insurance, HR Services, PEO and Other.
Does Paychex charge setup fees?
The page shows no setup fee and no other fee amount. It offers onboarding on your own or with one of its implementation specialists, without saying whether either costs extra.

The page does not say. No price or billing period is published for any of the four plans, so those terms come only with the quote.

What this check confirmed

Read off https://www.paychex.com/payroll/small-business-payroll on 8 Oct 2026 from a US connection. No prices are published; the page offers a Get a Quote Now button at the top and a Request Pricing section with a Talk to Sales selector and a Contact Sales button. Confirmed: the four plan names Basic, Foundations, Advanced and Complete under the heading Compare Small Business Payroll Options, each with a one-line description and no figure; the absence of any dollar amount in the page text; the list of services the sales selector offers. Not confirmed: any price, setup fee, per-employee rate or contract term; what the quote form asks for, since the form was not opened or filled in; what each plan includes beyond its one-line description, since the plan details sit behind a View Payroll Plans button that was not opened; the answer to the page's own question on what payroll costs for small businesses, which was collapsed; whether a free trial exists.
