Square Appointments is booking and scheduling software from Square for salons, spas and service businesses. Plans are a flat monthly fee per location, and every plan also pays card processing fees on each payment.

What the free tier actually allows
- Square Free is $0 per month per location, with no monthly subscription cost.
- It includes an online booking site and integrations, appointment reminders and unlimited staff calendars.
- Each card payment is charged a processing fee: 2.6% + 15¢ in person (tap, dip or swipe) and 3.3% + 30¢ online.
- Cancellation policies with no-show fees, multi-staff booking and a waitlist are not on the Free plan; they are listed from Square Plus.
What the pricing page does not say
- Every plan, including Square Free, pays a processing fee on each card payment. The fee falls as the plan rises: 2.6% + 15¢ in person on Free, 2.5% + 15¢ on Plus and 2.4% + 15¢ on Premium.
- Online payments cost more than in-person ones: 3.3% + 30¢ on Free, and 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus and Premium.
- The monthly fee is per location, so a business with two locations pays it twice.
- No-show fees and cancellation policies, which many appointment businesses rely on, start on Square Plus at $49 per location per month.
- Square Pro has no published price. It is offered to businesses processing over $250,000 per year, with custom processing fees.
- Existing Square sellers are told their pricing may change depending on their current plan, with notice ahead of time.
What a business pays for Square Appointments
Square Appointments cost has two parts: the plan fee per location and a processing fee on each card payment. Staff count does not change the plan fee. The figures are arithmetic on prices read on 15 Oct 2026.

On fees alone, Plus saves 0.1% in person and 0.4% online against Free. Covering the $49 fee from the online saving takes $49 / 0.004 = $12,250 of online card payments a month. Plus also adds features such as no-show fees and a waitlist.
