What the free tier actually allows
- The pricing page lists no free plan. The cheapest plan is Pro at $9 per Member per month billed yearly, or $12 billed monthly.
- The page offers a free trial: 30 days free, no credit card required.
- Contributors are unlimited and free on Pro, and Guests are unlimited and free on Business, so only Members are counted in the price.
What the pricing page does not say
- Pro is capped at 10 Members. A team that needs an 11th Member has to move to Business at $19 per Member per month billed yearly.
- Business needs 3 or more Members, so its lowest bill is 3 x $19 = $57 a month on yearly billing.
- Paying monthly costs 33% more on Pro ($12 against $9) and 26% more on Business ($24 against $19).
- Several features are add-ons with their own price. Dynamic View starts at $125 a month and Data Shuttle at $100 a month, and both are available only on Business and Enterprise.
- Timeline view, workload tracking and unlimited automations start on Business. Pro allows 250 automations per month.
- SAML-based SSO is on Enterprise, which has no published price and is listed for 10 or more Members.

Smartsheet cost for 1, 5 and 20 Members, worked from the published rates. Each figure is Members x rate x 12 months. Pro stops at 10 Members and Business starts at 3, so some combinations do not exist.

A team of 5 pays $600 a year more on Business than on Pro at the yearly rate ($1,140 against $540). A team of 20 cannot use Pro, so its lowest published price is Business at 20 x $19 = $380 a month billed yearly.
Which plan fits which team
Pro is for 1 to 10 Members who need sheets, forms, reports and the Gantt, table, board and calendar views, within 250 automations per month. Business is the first plan with timeline view, workload tracking, admin capabilities and unlimited automations, and it needs at least 3 Members. Enterprise, for 10 or more Members, adds SAML-based SSO, portfolios and unlimited attachment storage at a custom price. Advanced Work Management bundles the premium apps on top of Enterprise, also at a custom price.
Billing details
The page has a switch between monthly and yearly pricing and a currency selector. The figures in this file are the USD ones. Yearly billing is 25% below the monthly rate on Pro ($12 to $9) and 21% below it on Business ($24 to $19).
Add-ons are billed on top of the plan. Dynamic View starts at $125 a month and Data Shuttle at $100 a month. At those starting prices, each one costs more per month than 5 Business Members on yearly billing (5 x $19 = $95).
